The Canyon Lake Twirlers celebrated their 34th Anniversary in January of 2008. The Twirlers began in 1974 as primarily a Square Dance Club for people who lived in Canyon Lake, California. We were fortunate that a caller, Joe Maness, lived in Canyon Lake. He started our Club and was an adviser for many years. In 1976 our club joined with CCHA and our members now include many wonderful people from other cities.
Our first President was Les Roche elected in 1975. The membership in the beginning years was approximately twenty eight square dancers. Through the years we have benefited from many wonderful callers. Our first guest caller was Speedy Spinacki in September of 1976.
Except for a brief interlude during construction, we were fortunate in always having our beautiful Lodge to hold our dances. At Canyon Lake our dance hall is located in our Lodge over looking our lake. It is a beautiful location and our wall of windows gives us a marvelous view. Because of the locations of our Lodge there are always plenty of parking spaces for our monthly dances.
At one time we had dances on Friday nights, but in recent history we have changed our monthly Dance to a Sunday afternoon. This system has proven to be a good choice for us. We also use a Solo Board at our dances and classes. No one is ever left out of a Canyon Lake Dance.
Currently we teach square dancing in the popular Phase One and Phase Two series. Our classes are going well and we look forward to graduating accomplished dancers in the Spring.
The Canyon Lake Twirlers are known for their friendliness and good nature. We are a Club that loves to dance and we always remember that Square Dancing is for fun and fellowship.
